An automatic fire suppression system can be comprised of many different components based on the layout of the particular building. These can include Fixed, movable, or removable smoke screens. Smokescreens will usually come in a package of two to three units. Smokescreens are used to cover a large open area, such as an office or warehouse, to prevent people from being able to escape from the building during an emergency. The system will have enough smoke to inhibit the growth of any vegetation that tries to grow in that space. A good abv system should be able to suppress around 25% of the area that it covers, which is the equivalent of putting out a fire by smothering the flames with smoke.
Fixed automatic fire suppression systems are usually the most affordable option. They have their own dedicated abv or “fire protection system”. This is usually the most effective of all abv systems since it can be operated with remote control. This allows the operator to stop the fire protection system at any time. It will then return to full power automatically after a pre-determined number of seconds.
An automatic fire suppression system is not necessary for buildings that do not have the capacity to house them. If your building has no windows and is protected by just steel roofing, you will not need one. But if your building has good insulation, it might be wise to invest in an automatic fire suppression system. These include armor tanks and other fire protection equipment.
An automatic fire suppression system requires an approved abv or “per nfpa” rating according to local ordinances. If your building falls under the category of commercial structures and if it is constructed with non-combustible materials, you will need an NPDES permit. You will have to file an NPDES permit with your local municipality. This is because the NPDES permits are required before the installation and operation of your local fire prevention system.
To comply with local ordinances, an automatic fire ventilation system must be located within the perimeter of the building and it cannot be installed so high as to obstruct traffic. You might also need to purchase NPDES authorization insurance, especially if you are using non-combustible material as the main material for your abv system. Some states also require NPDES authorizations for structures that employ open-cell technology or are fireplaces. You should check with your local fire protection office to find out more about these requirements.
